Flow States Kids Immersed in a Tidal Pool Universe_Illustration by Nat Carroll

This illustration grew from a cloudless summer visit to Mills Bay, a quiet little beach just south of Bermagui. The water was like a bath, people were relaxed, and everything felt suspended — one of those rare, blissful days where time loosens its grip. I watched two kids leaning over a tidal pool, completely absorbed, as if peering into a small universe glowing beneath their feet. That moment of deep presence — the soft gaze, the slowness, the spaciousness — stayed with me. It felt like a living example of a flow state: that gentle dissolving of the world where you remember who you are beneath all the noise. This mindful, nature-inspired illustration is my way of capturing that feeling; a quiet slice of summer that I hope offers you a moment of your own stillness and return.

I acknowledge the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work.
