Spinning back in time for nostalgia-obssessed Sydney artist, Alanka
Alanka’s debut EP, Pieces, is a collection of songs about memories and past experiences, a tapestry of the artist’s life. Her work – and life – is entwined with the feeling of nostalgia, a past golden era of 1960’s New York soundscapes, poetry, fashion and art-deco architecture.
Alanka’s debut EP, Pieces, is a collection of songs about memories and past experiences, a tapestry of the artist’s life. Her work – and life – is entwined with the feeling of nostalgia, a past golden era of 1960’s New York soundscapes, poetry, fashion and art-deco architecture.
Being mindful to these influences, I created individual graphic elements, and combined them with the repeating patterns found in the art deco period. This was coupled with photography by Angelo Kehagias, to subtly show the idea of a collection of fragments, memories, and pieces. In researching the period, I was also inspired by the opulence in the art-deco era so a touch of gold foil was added to the borders of the packaging.
